Transfer Credit & Prior Learning
How coursework from other institutions and professional experience can count toward an NBU program.
When transfer credit may be accepted
- Coursework was completed at a recognized institution
- Courses are equivalent to NBU requirements
- Academic standards are satisfied
- Official transcripts are provided
The Office of the Registrar evaluates transfer credit in consultation with academic departments. NBU determines acceptance and applicability toward degree completion. Transfer students must satisfy all NBU graduation requirements, including residency.
Coursework from outside the United States generally requires a credential evaluation.
Credit for what you already know
NBU recognizes knowledge gained through professional experience, military service, certifications and training. Prior learning may be evaluated through:
- Portfolio assessment
- Standardized examinations
- Professional certifications
- Competency evaluations
- Departmental review
